Grandpa Danced

Grandpa Danced is a mixed media painting with sculpture. It represents personal heritage kept alive through a memory. This artwork is a memory of a dance. Like most memories, it's a bit faded over time; the edges aren't real clear. But the mood comes across. The exhuberance of the dance is evident in the swirling energy of the paint and metal.

The full title would be I Remember Him Dancing With Me When I Was So Little, On Saint Patty's Day. The celebration that St. Patty's Day was so robust and heartfelt, it felt bigger than Christmas. No lavish decorations and gifts, but huge pride in heritage and love of family. The excitement filled the house, and the Irish music spilled out into the street as Grandma sang, and Grandpa spun me around in a spirited jig. This is the kind of memory that stays with you, and becomes part of who you are.
